Extra virgin olive oil is well acclaimed for huge number of benefits that it comes with. Apart from the health benefits, natural olive oil also helps in making beauty products such as soaps, shampoo, hair color, anti-wrinkle creams, face powder, lipsticks etc. It has been used to treat rheumatic conditions, skin disorders, sprains and bruises also. If you want to garner macerated oils, then olive oil is the best oil that you can make use of.

Natural olive oil has the power to reduce itching problem of the skin. It is extensively used as a skin moisturizer and conditioner for nails and hair. It is used to make infusions, suppositories and salves and in synthesis of proteoglycans, glycoprotiens and elastin. For its best utilization, it is blended with a light vegetable oil. Natural olive oil is rich in proteins, vitamins, chlorophyll and fatty acids.

Natural olive oil is produced from a special type of fruit, which is found in abundance in the Mediterranean Basin. It is extensively used for cooking, medicinal purposes, making of soaps, cosmetics. Also, used as a fuel for lighting traditional lamps.

Olive oil is extracted from olive trees. There are several types of fresh olive oil that one can get. Few of them have been mentioned below:

  1. Virgin: This type of oil is extracted by physical means. Not a single chemical is used to produce it. Needless to say, extra virgin olive oil is the best oil you can consume.
  2. Refined: This type of oil is produced with little chemical treatment. But then, chemicals are used to neutralize acid content and strong tastes. It is a lower quality of virgin oil.
  3. Pomace: This type of oil is extracted from pomace by making use of chemical solvents and heat. The pomace paste is formed by grinding olives into small bits and mixing it with water. After that it is processed by the process of centrifugation.

The vendors of extra virgin olive oil use distinct names for different oil types. Some of them have been mentioned below:

  1. 100% Pure Olive Oil: This is, probably, the lowest quality of oil available. It will provide good taste and essence but it is chemically produced.
  2. Light olive oil: This refers to refined oil with no or low fat content.
  3.  Handpicked olives: The quality of this type of oil is better as it is harvested by mechanical means.
  4. First cold press: It tries to indicate that the oil was produced from first press of olives. The word cold comes from the fact that heat is used while the chemical treatment of the olives takes place.  
Bottled in Italy or Packed in Italy: You might find these phrases written in many olive oil bottles. These are luring captions developed solely for the purpose of marketing. Not all shops have premium quality extra virgin olive oil.
